A Girl's Best
Friend: Why Dogs Are Better Than Diamonds
By Joanna
Sandsmark
What an ideal
Christmas stocking filler this little book will prove to be. This book, which is
beautifully illustrated, is a collection of sayings, articles on dog care and
dog stories and takes a light-hearted look at the joys of dog ownership. This book looks at the relationship
between females and their canine companions and quotes the famous remark
"The more I see of men, the more I like dogs".
The advice on
dog shows is "...Make sure you can strut effortlessly in stiletto heels
when holding onto her leash. Dress professionally, but sexy enough to capture
the eye of the male judges. Learn some tricks: it's important to be able to
smile without wrinkling, jog without too much bouncing, and always always
be sure the camera gets your best side.
Only then will you, er, your dog, have a chance at winning!"
I can certainly
recommend this delightful little book as an ideal Christmas present. It is a
fun book which a dog owner would appreciate.

Sandsmark is a gifted writer who really does understand the very special
relationship we women have with our dogs. The stories she tells are
exceptionally clever, entertaining and engaging. As if that's not enough, the
book is filled with vintage color pictures from the archives of the The
Illustrated London News, and they are nothing less than fantastic. This is a
wonderful book to give to any woman you know who loves dogs.
